Meditation is a hard practice for many to start. The mind does not naturally want to be disciplined in its thinking, and non-thinking is even harder. Oftentimes, the body has challenges, too. Simply put, sitting or lying still can physically hurt if you’re not used to it.
Luckily, one great introduction to meditation is walking meditation. This is not a modern cop-out, but an ancient practice that most Vipassana silent meditation retreats incorporate into their daily schedules alongside the more talked-about seated meditations. The concept is easy enough – you walk very slow, deliberately paying focused attention to every part of your body as it steps forward. Though like all concepts, it’s a bit harder in practice.
