About This Tool

Deep breathing is something that’s talked about often in mental health but can also be hard to know how to do. This exercise is meant to give you a visual illustration to help you in getting the breath you need to find pause. Most of us breathe from our chest when we’re not thinking about it - our shoulders rise as we inhale and they fall as we exhale. This type of breathing will limit the amount of air you can take in and thus also limit the amount of oxygen you can take in, which is what your body needs to feel calm and steady.
