As a business coach I see business owners all the time who are building businesses in the hopes that it will help them create a life they love. I believe that understanding what you want that life you love to look like should happen from the start, and then be revisited regularly. By spending some time really thinking about what kind of life you want to create, what kind of hours you want to work, what kind of money you want to make and why, then you have the information you need to set the right business goals and strategies. Start with deciding what your life should look like and from the very start build a business that complements that.
In my years using this tool I have seen how few business owners stop and take the time to do this exercise. When business owners get really intentional about the life that they want to have, they have the meaning and motivation needed to build the life of their dreams. Many business owners realize that they are working too much and find ways to have more time with their families, taking care of themselves and doing things that they enjoy, and find ways to make sure that they don't make less money while doing so, and in fact most start making more money.
