Autogenic relaxation is a technique created by Dr. J.H. Schultz in 1920s. Autogenic means "self-regulated". It's a relaxation method that balances the nervous system and helps reduce stress and anxiety. It is an excellent tool to release migraine pain as well as prevent migraines when practiced daily. It also teaches your body to respond to your suggestions so that you have more flexibility in your nervous system responses throughout the day.
Autogenic relaxation is a unique relaxation technique. it works directly on your parasympathetic nervous system, part of your autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS controls involuntary bodily functions, such as heart rate, breathing and digestion. A key element in autogenic relaxation is that during autogenic training, your brainwaves drop to the lower-frequency theta state — the same state you experience just as you fall asleep.
