In 2008 Smith and Pellegrini in Learning Through Play, analyzed learning through play. They found play to be imperative in the development of children and the various types of play to be indicative of the way in children learn. This tool utilizes a playful approach to learning to understand the way an individual manages thought processes both in an organized way and through various techniques of learning functioning.

In 2016, in The Journal of Education and Practice, Jamal Raiyn looked at "The Role of Visual Learning in Improving Students' High Order Thnking Skills." This study showed us the importance of learning through taking in visual information. This screening tool provides this visual reference for learning in an outcome based proceess as well as the visual representation through the individual's perspective.
