We believe that with the right support for their emotional and social development, children can learn to understand their own hearts and minds. This self-understanding leads to: 1) better self-regulation 2) improved relationships with others, and 3) ability to act in accordance with their best intentions. We (Marcie Fields Yeager and Daniel Yeager) are licensed clinical social workers and also have extensive training as play therapists. At our family counseling clinic (The Yeager Center in Lafayette LA) we counseled young children, their families and their schools. During 30 years in practice, we developed playful, active, creative interventions that engage the “whole child” and help them to understand their emotions and to understand how their minds work--all in service of helping them be the wonderful persons that they are meant to be! We now devote our professional career exclusively to providing training and resources for therapists, educators and parents through our company, PlayTherapyWorks. Our work is based on cognitive-behavioral theory and developmental theory, particularly the social-cognitive developmental theory advanced by Lev Vygotsky.
